If you’re questioning whether you want to get to the gym today, take inspiration from these 11 bodybuilding legends who never lost their gains even in retirement

Up-and-comer Michal Krizo officially earned his IFBB pro card this past weekend, clearing the way for a potential Mr. Olympia qualification if he wins his first pro show.

The humble push-up is one of the best exercises for building upper-body strength. But if that doesn’t get you going, perhaps one of these 10 variations will.

11 Bodybuilders Who Stayed Jacked in Retirement

For many bodybuilders, the day-in, day-out gym grind isn’t something that simply vanishes once they decide to walk away from the sport. This is a lifestyle, and the tenets they lived by throughout their active career — consistent training and a strict diet — help them to maintain their world-class physiques well into retirement.

And since there’s nothing quite as inspiring as people taking the fight to Father Time, we’re taking a look at 11 bodybuilders who stayed absolutely jacked years (or decades, in some cases) after calling it a career. From former Mr. Olympias to everyone’s favorite gamma-powered TV star, we’re here to prove that there’s no age limit on your gains.

Michal Krizo Eyes an Olympia Bid

Few bodybuilders have as much buzz around them as Michal Krizo Krizanek (a.k.a. Michal Krizo) does right now. Not only are fans taking notice, but Olympia legends like Jay Cutler and Samir Bannout both picked him to make serious noise at this year’s show. And here’s the kicker: He’s not even qualified yet!

Well, after this past weekend, Krizo is one step closer. He officially earned his IFBB pro card with a win at the Amateur Olympia Italy contest in Rome. Now, Krizo can earn a spot at the O if he wins one of these remaining qualifying shows:

  • 2022 Prague Pro — Oct. 29, in Prague, Czech Republic

  • 2022 Musclecontest Brazil — Nov. 4-6, Brazil (City Not Announced)

  • 2022 Europa Pro — Nov. 6, in Spain (City Not Announced)

  • 2022 Romania Muscle Fest — Nov. 12-13 in Bucharest, Romania

It’s a tall order because even if Krizo wins one of these, he would only have weeks to properly prep for the Olympia, which starts December 16. Still, Krizo’s potential debut on top of a jam-packed Olympia roster is making this show one for the history books.

Chances are, you’re probably taking the push-up for granted. It’s one of the best moves to build your chest, but it’s typically not mentioned in the same breath as the barbell bench press and incline press. When you integrate it into your weekly chest routine, though, this staple exercise can give a much-needed boost to your upper-body strength.

If hitting the floor for some standard push-ups doesn’t sound exciting enough, we’re sharing 10 variations that should offer up a unique challenge and yield even greater gains. And not only are we breaking down the correct form behind each one — we’re offering tips on how to program them into your routine.
