If you train for aesthetics, the traps are a huge statement piece of your upper body. The undeniably eye-catching traps of bodybuilders and CrossFitters are all the evidence you’ll need of that.

Unfortunately, trap training can oftentimes be confusing or even fall by the wayside. Much like the calves, some people just seem to be born with these muscles while others struggle to develop them.

Even if you’re not trying to build bigger traps, strong trap muscles support a more balanced posture and better performance on the best barbell exercises. But how should you start, and how do you progress from there? To take the guesswork out of the equation, here is the best trap workout for every experience level.

Arnold’s Training Tips

Image: Men’s Health on YouTube

Even at 75 years old, Arnold Schwarzenegger is still a fixture at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach. And earlier this week, the former Governor of California was featured in a YouTube video detailing how he’s changed up his training over the years.

Though his days of stacking endless plates are behind him, Schwarzenegger still brings intensity to the gym by embarking upon 25-30 working sets in just around 30 minutes. There’s little, if any, rest in between sets here as Arnold blitzes through a biceps and shoulder routine. Take a look below.
