đź’Ş Phil Heath's New Job
Why do some bodybuilders prefer rice over pasta? In the great carb war, Hunter Labrada gives his thoughts on optimal intake.
But FIRST, a quick word from our sponsor. Today’s edition is brought to you by Organifi Green Juice, with adaptogens and superfoods that make wellness easy and delicious. Use code bb20 for 20% your entire purchase.
Phil Heath isn't competing at the Olympia this year. But he DOES have a new gig as a color commentator. (Hey, we do some of that at BarBend, too!)
And are kettlebells useless — or surprisingly underrated — for hypertrophy work?
It's hump day, so rev those engines and tell your boss, "Hey, it's summer. Can't we just, like, unwindulax?"

Carbs Created Equal?
Carbs is as carbs does. Or maybe not?
Hunter Labrada recently updated his training split to lead him into his 2022 Olympia prep. After finishing fourth overall in the 2021 Mr. Olympia contest, the 2021 Chicago Pro winner is vying to dethrone two-time reigning Mr. Olympia champion Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay in Las Vegas, NV, on Dec. 16-18, 2022.
Part of Labrada’s journey to the 2022 Olympia has been documenting his progress and sharing his training and nutrition insights on his YouTube channel. On July 16, 2022, Labrada did a Q&A with his 11,200 YouTube subscribers, discussing the differences between rice and pasta as a carb source, optimal training strategies, and more. Check it out below.
NEWS
Phil Heath To Join 2022 Olympia Commentary Team
With the Olympia still months (and months) away, some of the biggest news is coming from behind the booth. Call it an early "Gift." (See what we did there? Because Phil Heath's nickname is "The Gift." Bodybuilders give each other nicknames sometimes. Anyway...)
The 2022 Olympia Weekend is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 16-18, 2022, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV. There have been many questions surrounding the role that seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath may have in the contest. Heath and the Olympia promoters answered those questions on July 16, 2022 when they jointly announced that Heath will be in the announcers’ booth calling the action as a part of the commentary team.
“The Olympia has meant so much to me and my legacy,” Heath said in the press release. “I’m always looking for new ways to connect with fans, and I’m grateful to Jake Wood, Dan Solomon, and the entire Olympia team for this opportunity. This year’s Olympia is loaded with incredible storylines and rivalries. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Vegas.”
